She's here

We picked our baby Keira up on Saturday and she is truely scrumptious. The journey up to get her on Friday took us about 7 hours, we got stuck in traffic at Oxford for 2 1/2 hours. The hotel was ok, comfortable and very warm.
Debbie and Paul, the breeders, were lovely people and I felt so guilty taking away one of their babies. The journey back took less time, about five hours. Keira cried most of the way, pausing briefly to have a sleep and a wee. We went straight to see the children, who were most excited to see her. Paul then came home to see Star and give her some fussing and we followed on a little while later.
I'll post again tomorrow with the next installment.

1 week to go

Well where do I start so much has happened this week. My uncle has been diagoned with throat cancer and Paul is to be a great uncle in eight weeks!! Not to mention that Keira will be with is this time next week!!!!!
I think we have nearly everything covered house wise only a few bits left to do. The aged angelfish 'Grandad' is going tomorrow to a new home in Somerset, most of the cables have been tided away and the fencing is also nearly there with just one hole in the fence left to do. The garden looks as if it's beem invaded by the 'tidy people'.
I have booked a hotel stay on Friday night about half an hour away from Keira so we shouldn't have any problems in getting her on Saturday morning. Mum and dad have agreed to have all the children and Star on Friday night but I am at the moment trying to agree with them in leaving on Friday night 6ish - we want to leave about 12ish so we don't have to travel in the dark but they say we should pick the kids up and say goodbye before we leave. No doubt they will win in the end!
I brought Keira's food today Goats milk, Weetabix and Pedigree puppy complete - Robert was most impressed that she will have breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea! I also got the information from the training lady (Tricks for Treats) and hope to send payment next week - £60 for an eight week course, starting on the 6th March.
That's about it for now, probably the next entry will be when she has arrived.

Less than 3 weeks!

Well we have less than three weeks to go! The fun with trying to get the house puppy 'Keira' proofed is now taking its toll, with a fence to fix properly and garden to tidy, not to mention the house we/I am now feeling really up against it. Trying to get the children to think of leaving things on the floor and getting Paul to do the jobs he now needs to do is getting to be a real problem.
Keira's crate had to be returned to the supplier as it was faulty and I am now awaiting on a new one. Most other things have now been brought - a bowl, collar (kitten type), a harness, lead, a couple of fleecy tops, a waterproof jacket and a few more toys!
I have been in contact with the breeders again and they have advised me that she will be weaned onto Pedigree puppy complete food and Goats milk!!!! She will also have homeopathic inoculation - don't know about that so I have contacted our vet who has advised we get her traditionally innoculated as soon as possible.
I now have the phone number of a trainer, who I will call very soon to see when her next training/puppy classes will be.
We have also reinstalled Stars' crate so she won't have to be moved again when Keira gets here. It also gives her a bit more privacy away from Keira.
That's all for now. Apart from the fact that my studies are going ok at the moment. I had decided to give up on the course for a while if I received less than 70% for the last assignment but to my surprise I go more than that!!! Not bad considering I spent only a few hours on it.
Anyway, check out the recent photos they're fab.

New photos

Well we received some welcome contact yesterday in the form of an email, which had five lovely photos attached. They confirmed that Keiras birthday as the 15th December which fits in alot better to my reckoning. She is truely georgous and we can't wait to get her.
I have now also received some of the books I ordered - two of which are all about Poodles. The others are to do with training.
We have also been advised to purchase a velvet collar for her to wear around the house so she gets used to wearing one and we have decided to get a harness for first walkies, until she is bigger. At the moment she weighs 500 grams and would fit into the palm of your hand with her head being no bigger than the first two creases on your index finger!!
The breeders have promised to send some more pictures next week and will continue to do so until we get her.
As for the study - that's gone out the window and I am seriously considering putting it all on hold until we have her but we will just have to wait and see.

NEW YEAR

Well New Year is here! We managed to get successfully over Xmas with no unfortunate mishaps, although felt a little under the weather after lunch - too much excitement I think. The children loved all their Christmas presents, the creme De la creme being the trip to London to see High School Musical The Ice Tour. Of course we also saw the landmarks such as Lizzy's House, The London Eye, Big Ben etc. The Underground was a big hit as was Hamleys and Harrods (for the grown ups). Harrods has gone down a little in my estimations as they had puppies and kittens on sale! The kittens were £900 each but I don't know how much the puppies cost - the were cute little Shih Tzu's. No matter how much they are cared for by the staff I still don't agree with live animals being sold in shops.
I haven't had anymore photos from the breeders only an email saying that she is now commando crawling at a fast pace (21-12-07) and that they had received our deposit cheque. I also had a phone call on the 28Th Dec to say that the cheque would clear in the next few days and so they would send out a receipt - haven't received it yet but with the New Year hols it's to be expected. They also said that she had not opened her eyes yet! I think that maybe they got her birth date a little wrong as to my reckoning she should have opened them.
Anyway, we have decided to call her KEIRA and have already brought her a few bits and pieces such as her bed - which I am waiting to receive, a pink soft crate; a pink retractable lead, two fleecy coats (two sizes) and a teether.
I have also ordered a few books about Poodles and a couple of training books. I was also given a puppy training pack for Christmas which has a cassette in it of all different noises to get her used to like fireworks, cars etc. It also has a video and a diary in it.
Anyway that's about it for now 39 days to go and counting.

She's born

Our new baby has been born, two weeks ago. We have paid a deposit to reserve her and are due to go and collect her on the 9th February. She is a chocolate and cream miniature. Now the busy time begins with sorting out the house and garden, making sure that there are no holes in the fencing that she could squeeze through and tidying cables in the house so that she can't chew them.
The other important decision to be made is her name - we have a short list which appears to be getting longer!!!! Only time will tell.
Sleeping is a big problem for me at the moment and I was awake and downstairs at 4am. With hubbie snoring LOUDLY and the excitement of christmas and getting a puppy I don't have a hope. Perhaps I should resort to the whiskey bottle again.

In the beginning

Well we have finally decided to get another dog, after two years of deciding. We already have a dog, she is eight and could do with a playmate. In choosing a pup we have concidered many things, the impact on family life (a son with allergies), time, money, size of dog and temperament of the dog we want.
Having spoken to many people we have made a decision to go with a very nice breeder, who we met last week. She is lovely very down to earth and loves her dogs, and her other animals like her children. She has been breeding poodles for many years but has just recently cross breed a Border Terrier Toy Poodle and was amazed with the results.
After seeing her poodle pups we immediately fell in love with the mum poodle and her son but he already has a home : ( We have put our name on the list for the Doodle pup, which will hopefully be born on the 7th January 2008.
Anyway, enough for now wil post as soon as there is any more news.
